From the Publisher
In a time of division and discord, grace seems in vanishing supply. Why? And what can we do about it?
I set out to write a book on the endangered state of grace and ended up writing four short books, all related and bound inside the same cover.
All four sections have roots in a book I wrote almost twenty years ago. Originally, I had titled it What’s So Amazing About Grace and Why Don’t Christians Show More of It? until the publisher persuaded me to drop those last eight words. The question, though, has only grown more urgent in recent years.
Like a sudden thaw in the middle of winter, grace happens at unexpected moments. It stops us short, catches the breath, disarms. If we manipulate it, try to control it, somehow earn it, that would not be grace. Yet not everyone has tasted of that amazing grace, and not everyone believes in it.
—Philip Yancey
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING
“There’s not much I’d rather read about than grace. And there’s no one I’d rather have tell me about it than Philip Yancey.”
—Shane Claiborne, author, activist, lover of Jesus
“Yancey uses his masterful writing to lead readers into a place of understanding how volatile the good news “feels” to many outside of our faith.”
—Carlos Whittaker, author, Kill the Spider and Moment Maker
“Every Philip Yancey book is worth reading. I have never been disappointed. Just the opposite; each book has sharpened my thinking and touched my heart.”
Discover grace as you've never known it before: the most powerful force in the universe and our only hope for love and forgiveness.
In this video study, Philip Yancey—bestselling author of What’s So Amazing About Grace?—suggests practical ways in which we can live as salt and light within a society that is radically changing.
Where Is God When It Hurts? honestly explores pain—from physical wounds to emotional and spiritual pain—and sheds new light on God's presence in our suffering.
Why are there so many more professing Christians than churchgoing Christians? Is it because something is wrong with the church? Gain insights from Philip Yancey's personal pilgrimage away from and back to the church.
Adapted from What’s So Amazing about Grace, Yancey explores the mystery and wonder of forgiveness in this book. What is forgiveness? Why is forgiveness so difficult? Why is forgiveness scandalous? What does God have to do with forgiveness?
Yancey investigates the natural world and discovers the supernatural hiding in plain view. He grapples with why God made the world and seeks to answer the question, “How do I live in the natural world while expressing the values of the supernatural?”
