Angels
Who they are, what they do, and how they accompany us on our spiritual journey
The angels are our guardians in the night, our friends in the spiritual wilderness.
What light is to the eye, angels are to the soul. They are humble messengers – their invisibility is the first sign of their humility. The angels are created by God when He says, “Let there be light” (Gen. 1:3). They reflect God’s supernatural light to us. God makes use of the angels in the creation of the visible world – they are the first scientists.
Angels can reveal things to the soul immediately, but we often need time to understand and grasp the meaning of the profound mysteries they reveal, such as the mystery of our calling in this life, the mystery of love, and the painful mystery of loss. The angels don’t make the mysteries of God known in such a way that we figure everything out or “solve” the divine mysteries, but so that we are led further into these mysteries and to union with God. Angels are patient messengers as they guide us, kindly adapting their genius to our speed.
