Drawing Fluid & Screen Filler Method
Draw Your Image
Anything drawn with drawing fluid will become the printed image, so you may take advantage of the opportunity for painterly lines in your drawing. You can sketch your image out on paper first, or lightly draw directly onto the screen.
Coat Your Screen
The purpose of screen filler is to coat all the areas of the screen which you do not want to print. If you'd like a little extra texture around the outside of your image, you can intentionally Not coat the screen perfectly with screen filler or dry brush some of the edges for a more organic and painterly textured border when you print
Washing Out Your Screen
Once the screen filler is completely dry, rinse the front and back of the screen. During this step, the blue drawing fluid will begin to wash away revealing the the painted stencil.
Creating Your Print
The time has come! After all the hard work, it's time to see your project come to life. Place ink at the top of the screen and pull your squeegee evenly to create your print.
When you're finished with your project, the screen can be reclaimed using Speedball Speed Clean.
Photo Emulsion Method
Mixing Emulsion & Coating
Diazo Photo Emulsion is a 2-step process where the emulsion has to be 'activated' by adding sensitizer. The fundamental goal of coating a screen is to thoroughly permeate the mesh with the emulsion without overly saturating it and leaving emulsion dripping off.
Artwork & Exposure
The most effective artwork has a clear distinction between the black image and the white background. The amount of time it will require to properly expose your image will depend mostly on your light source.
Washing Out Your Screen
Using a spray nozzle or hose, apply a forceful spray of water to both sides of your screen until all unwanted emulsion is gone and you can easily see your stencil/image.
Creating Your Print
Pulling your squeegee is the heart of the craft of screen printing. The speed of your pull, squeegee angle, pressure and 'ink wrangling' are some of the core skill of a good print.
When you're finished with your project, the screen can be reclaimed using Speedball Photo Emulsion Remover.
