All cables have some signal loss. Loss is measured in power decibels (dB's). The longer the cable the greater the loss. Loss also depends on frequency, the higher the frequency (the higher the RF channel), the greater the loss. RF channels in the VHF band have noticeably less loss than channels in the UHF band.
Signal Loss depends on;
- Cable Type
- Cable Length
- Signal Frequency
Three types of coax cable (RG-6, RG-11, RG-59) can be used to connect an antenna to televisions. All TV coax cables have an impedance of 75 ohms (Ω) and use F-type male connectors. Antenna's and TV's use F-type female connectors.
