Needle Felting & Wet Felting

Needle felting is a process that involves sticking a needle repeatedly to shape and sculpt a piece of wool into a desired shape or form. Cheviot wool can be fine to coarse, and while not as soft as Corriedale and Merino, it has a very strong and durable structure which is ideal for larger felting projects or as a felting base to build upon.

Wet felting is a more extensive process and involves combining water and soap to create a piece of fabric. It is often used to create two-dimensional artwork. Other steps are involved using heat, moisture, and changing ph levels.

Spinning

Cheviot Wool is great for spinning or both wheel and drop spindle, for beginners and advanced spinners alike. It is especially popular among hand spinners as the wool fibers have a great draft, in particular when it’s combed. Once the cheviot wool is spun into yarn it is commonly used for outwear and household items that receive a lot of use. Our cheviot wool takes dye well and is perfect as a filling material.

Arm or Hand Knitting

Arm knitting is an easy and popular approach for beginners. For this technique, needles are not necessary! Also called arm weaving, or arm crocheting, this technique is often used for larger-scale projects such as a blanket, rugs, scarves or pillows.
