Right after you insert the light bulb into the fixture, it's important to keep the light on for 10 consecutive hours to completely charge the battery. That way it'll be ready to use in case of an emergency. The bulb automatically recharges when the electricity's on.

A Power-Problem Solution

In case of a power outage, if the lamp is turned on, the bulb will stay on. If it's not, simply turn the lamp on. To use the bulb as a flashlight, make sure the switch is off, remove the bulb from the fixture, and switch the bulb to the flashlight position for up to 5 hours without power.
