When should I start studying for the SSAT?
The sooner students start studying for the SSAT, the better! We recommend beginning study a year before the planned test date. If it's too much, students can always pull back, but as the test approaches, there's no getting back the lost time.
What's the difference between the SSAT, ISEE, and SHSAT?
We know—too many acronyms! Deciding which test is right for your student involves understanding the key differences between the ISEE, SSAT, and SHSAT exams!
At this level, each tests covers similar topics, but are different in scoring, structure, and which schools they pertain to. If you’re applying for a New York Specialized High School, you’ll be taking the SHSAT. If you’re applying to a private or parochial school, research the school. Which test do they accept? If they accept both ISEE and SSAT, have your student try taking a practice test for each! Is there one that your student feels more comfortable with?
What should I look for in my test prep?
It’s not rocket science–when looking for test prep for you and your student, look for a company that will meet your student where they are and help them reach for the stars.
The best study material is specially written and edited to match the test. A wide variety of questions is important, sure, but equally important is the quality of the questions and accompanying explanations. Detailed answer explanations help your students learn from their mistakes and grow—with or without a tutor!
