1. Load Dishes Properly

Load dishes according to the directions in your dishwasher’s manual. It is important to ensure that the dirty sides of the dishes face the spray. Load your flatware according to your dishwasher’s instructions, and make sure spoons are not nested to allow full water circulation. Place all glasses, cups, and bowls upside down. Do not place larger items such that they shield small items. Make certain that breakable items are firmly supported by the dishwasher rack so they don’t topple or bang into each other.

2. Separate Silverware from Stainless

Avoid damage by separating stainless steel from silver flatware. Direct contact between these metals in the dishwasher can cause permanent damage to silver. Position the flatware basket as far away from the detergent dispenser cups as possible, and do not spill detergent directly onto any flatware.

3. Add Detergent

Although it is recommended that you refer to your dishwasher’s user guide for directions on how much detergent to add, the pre-measured detergent pacs conveniently take the guesswork out of measuring. Simply place one detergent pac into your dishwasher’s main dispenser cup and close the lid. Make sure that both your hands and the dispenser cup are dry before handling and placing the detergent pac in the dispenser cup. Do not add the detergent pac until you are ready to run your dishwasher.

4. Check Water Temperature

Hot water is essential for best dishwashing and drying results. For best cleaning results, the water entering your dishwasher must be at least 120° F. Performance will be improved further at 140° F, but do not exceed 160° F. Turn on the faucet nearest your dishwasher to flush cool water from the pipes just prior to starting a dishwasher cycle, especially if your dishwasher does not have an internal heating element.

Are your dishes not coming out fully clean? Ensure the water temperature in your dishwasher is at least 120º F, as lower temperatures can prevent the removal of grease and cause spotting. Keeping the inside of your dishwasher clean is also crucial; a dirty trap or clogged spray arms can lead to poor results. Follow the care instructions in your dishwasher’s manual.

If your pods are clumping together, store them in a cool, dry place to prevent moisture from making the casing tacky. Always reseal the pouch immediately after use to keep moisture out.

For cloudy glassware, water hardness can contribute to spotting and filming, which may change seasonally. Use the heat dry option or a rinse aid, like vinegar, to minimize these issues. You can also hand-wash cloudy glassware with vinegar to restore its clarity.
