From the manufacturer
Pure & Essential Daily Vitamin D3 2000 IU - 365 vegetarian tablets sourced from lanolin
Pure & Essential Daily Vitamin D3 provides the most biologically active form of vitamin D as cholecalciferol. This high-absorption form is easily utilised by the body. Small tablets deliver 2000 IU of vitamin D3, suitable for everyday use throughout the year. Excessive doses of vitamin D3 can upset the delicate ratio of calcium and vitamin D in the body, so higher doses should only be taken for acute periods as needed.*

Bioactive vitamin D3*
There are two forms of vitamin D; cholecalciferol (D3), formed naturally in the body, and synthetic ergocalciferol (D2). Vitamin D3 is up to 3x more active than D2 and is readily absorbed and easily utilised by the body. This supplement provides vitamin D as D3, cholecalciferol, derived from lanolin (sheep's wool).
For a vegan option, see our algae-derived cholecalciferol, in 1000iu tablets.
Meaningful daily dose*
Pure & Essential Daily Vitamin D3 provides an ideal daily dose without upsetting the delicate ratio of calcium and vitamin D in the body. As a fat-soluble vitamin, the body can struggle to expel vitamin D if taken in high amounts for too long. Due to its role in regulating blood calcium levels, high doses taken long term can lead to high levels of calcium in the blood, also known as hypercalcemia.*
Convenient vitamin D support*
Described as the 'sunshine vitamin', vitamin D is produced naturally in the body in response to direct sun exposure on the skin, though UV rays are not always able to maintain sufficient status year-round. Vitamin D can also be derived from some foods such as fish and eggs, and yet a large percentage of the adult population still has low vitamin D, with even lower concentrations found in those following plant-based diets. Supplementation is a convenient way to support optimal vitamin D blood levels.
The role of vitamin D in the body
Immune function
Vitamin D3 is a hormone-like vitamin that contributes to strong immune function. Maintaining vitamin D blood levels within the optimal range supports a proper immune response, enabling the activation of immune defences, including T cells and macrophages. Low vitamin D levels are associated with an increased risk of infection and vulnerability to illness.*
Healthy bones & teeth
Maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels is important for normal growth and development of bones and teeth, due to its relationship with calcium and phosphorus uptake. When the balance of vitamin D and calcium is no longer optimal, there is an increased risk for conditions affecting bone health.*
Supporting the vital organs
Through supporting optimal calcium balance, the beneficial effects of vitamin D extend also to the central nervous system, the immune system and vital organs.
There are 36 organ tissues in the body whose cells respond biologically to vitamin D, including the intestines, kidneys, lungs, skin, stomach and the uterus. Deficiency of vitamin D can impact all of these organs.*
