How to turn your loved one or patient using the Lunderg Bedsore Pillow

Step 1 - Talk

Get your patient or loved one’s full participation. Simple encouragement works wonders!

**Note that in this demonstration, we are using the Lunderg cushion without the extra layer and with the moisture resistant cover on. These instructions are the same if using the comfort cover or the slope adjusting layer. **

Step 2 - Roll

Make sure the patient or loved one is turned as much as possible to one side. Depending on their ability to assist, you might have to help them. To make things easier, we recommend you use the Lunderg Bed assist Rail if you are not using a Hospital bed.

Step 3 - Right Position

Your hands should be on the backside of the pillow while the curved side faces the patient or loved one.

Step 4 - Place the pillow

Using the curved side, place one end under the shoulder blade and the other end under the buttocks.

Step 5 - Rectify if needed

Now is the perfect time to make sure you are avoiding the sacrum or sore area.

Step 6 - Final Roll & Tips from the nurse

Roll back the patient or loved one onto the cushion. The non-slip pillowcase will prevent slipping, but it is recommended to hold the cushion!

Last, you can check with your hand that the pillow is not applying any pressure on the wounds or bedsores.

If after the final roll the patient or loved one is not comfortable you can try again by adjusting the slope!

No, we don't recommend it for people under 5 feet or children, as it is too wide/big and it wouldn't work as designed.
