The origin of Blue Flag (Iris versicolor) is Eastern United States. Iris versicolor is a perennial herb with a creeping horizontal rhizome, thick and fleshy. The stems are straight, cylindrical, 60-90 cm tall. The leaves are straight,slightly bluish, 2 cm wide, shorter than the stem. The fruit is an oblong three-celled box with numerous reddish-brown seeds. It grows in Europe, North America, North India, North Africa. The name of the plant comes from the Greek word "iris", which means "rainbow".
