Frost & Design Application Instructions

Before you color:

1. Do not shampoo hair. Comb through to detangle or brush gently to remove hair spray residue, if necessary

2. Do a strand test

Strand test step-by-step directions:

Step 1. Tie on Highlighting Cap so all hair is covered and tucked up inside.

Step 2. With metal styling hook, pull a generous amount of hair from behind one ear by pushing the hook through the hole, picking up a strand, and pulling it back through with a half turn of the hook. Be sure strands fill the entire hole.

Step 3. Put on the gloves. Mix one teaspoon of Lightening Powder with two teaspoons of Crème Developer in the tube. Then add a small amount of Frosting Protective Crème the size of a pearl or a bean to mixture. Stir using applicator end of plastic styling hook/applicator until mixture forms a thick, creamy paste.

Step 4. Rinse plastic styling hook/applicator clean with cold water; then use to coat strand generously with mixture.

Step 5. Put on Overcap to make a snug fit. You can also use some plastic wrap from home if you choose. Secure at forehead with a hairclip.

***Check test strand frequently.

Step 6. Carefully remove Overcap and wipe away mixture with a damp tissue. If hair has not reached the desired lighter shade, re-apply mixture as before. Note the time required to reach the ideal shade by reading the timing guide below. You will need to know this when you do the full process.

Step 7. Remove Overcap and rinse mixture off test strand and Highlighting Cap. Rinse and dry mixing tray, plastic styling hook/applicator, Overcap, and Highlighting Cap.

Put on your highlighting cap

Step 1: Make sure your hair is dry. Comb hair straight back or in a loose ponytail. Put on the Highlighting Cap and tie it snugly. Tuck hair in under the cap if it slides out.

Step 2: Pull strands of hair you want to highlight through the holes by pushing the hook through the hole, picking up a strand and pulling it back through with a half turn. But sure the strand is thick enough to fill the entire hole.

Step 3: After you’ve finished, gently comb the entire strand out to make sure the entire strand has been pulled through and detangled. If your hair on the back hangs out of the cap, be sure to protect it with a towel or some plastic wrap.

1. For the best and most predictable results, use a highlighting kit formulated for your hair color. And always do an allergy and strand test to check for allergic reactions and to preview the lightening effect before you commit!

2. Read your instructions carefully, and find your processing time limit. Different hair textures and colors process differently.

3. If your hair has been processed a lot, you may want to consult with a professional to prevent any damage.

All-over highlights:

For an all-over multi-dimensional effect, scatter highlights throughout all of your hair. For a more subtle effect, pull 6–8 strands of hair through every third in the cap throughout your whole head. For more of a dramatic change, try every two holes.

Frame your face:

Create a shimmer of light around your face to highlight your best features along with your hair. Use the cap, pull hair through every other hole around your hairline from ear to ear.

Top lights:

With highlights at your crown, your hair will take on a sun-kissed look. To achieve the effect, part your hair where you usually do, and pull on the cap. Then pull a few strands of hair through every hole along your part and around your hairline.

Tip lights:

For a cool dramatic effect on short hair, highlight just the ends. Use the cap to pull out bits of hair every third hole, then carefully apply the mixture to just the tips.
